# Auto top-up

> How to turn auto top-up on at /app/billing, what the threshold does, and the NGN amount.

Auto top-up is on [Billing](https://robase.dev/app/billing). It buys credits when the balance drops, using a saved payment method. It applies to both OTP sends and SMS sends: both of those accepted sends check the balance afterward.

Prices and pack sizes come from live `GET /v1/pricing`. This page does not list them.

A new account starts at **0 credits**. There is no free trial. The first successful top-up adds **10 bonus credits**, once per account. That rule is the same for a manual top-up and for an automatic one, and it is still once per account.

## Turn it on

1. Open [Billing](https://robase.dev/app/billing).
2. Find **Auto top-up**. The hint says it buys credits when your balance drops.
3. Tick the box so the label reads **Enabled**.
4. Set the threshold and the amount, then save.

The box stays disabled when this workspace's payment rail cannot charge a saved method. The page then says top-ups are manual: buy a pack when you need credits. Some currencies also have no automatic charge yet. In that case the save is refused and the page tells you to top up through support until that corridor opens.

You need a saved payment method from a successful checkout. With no saved method, the charge does not run and no credits are added.

Turning the box off saves a threshold of **0**, which disables auto top-up.

## Threshold

The field is **Threshold (credits)**. The hint says to top up when the balance is below this. The charge runs when the balance is **at or under** the threshold.

**0 or less disables it.** A threshold of 0 is how the switch off is stored. A negative threshold is rejected. The largest threshold you can save is 1,000,000 credits.

The chips under the field (10, 25, and 50) are suggestions. The number you type is the threshold that is saved.

The check runs after an **accepted** OTP send and after an **accepted** SMS send. A send the API refuses first, including **402** `insufficient_credits`, does not start a charge. If the balance is already too low to pay for the next message, top up manually on the same page, then send again. Auto top-up refills a balance that can still pay for a send and has landed at or under the threshold.

A charge that is still pending blocks another automatic charge for that workspace for 10 minutes. A failed charge does not add credits, and the next accepted send can try again.

## NGN amount

The amount field is labeled **Top-up amount (₦)**. It is a naira figure.

* For a workspace billed in naira, that figure is the amount charged.
* For a workspace billed in another currency, the page offers packs. The stored figure is still naira, and the charge is the pack that figure maps to. A pack under that currency's minimum top-up is refused when you save, so you pick a pack that will actually run.

When auto top-up is on, the amount has to be from **1 to 500,000 naira**. An amount of 0 is rejected while the threshold is above 0.

The exact money charged, and the credits it buys, are the live pack and the live rate on `GET /v1/pricing`. Do not quote a naira-per-credit figure from memory.

## Who can change it

Saving auto top-up needs `billing.write` (owner and finance). Admin, member, and viewer can read billing and cannot change this. See [Team](https://docs.robase.dev/dashboard/team.md).

Low balance email is a separate control under [Settings, General](https://docs.robase.dev/dashboard/settings.md). It notifies you. It does not charge a card.
